Need to Know Newport, RI: Week of May 26


A selection of tarts from Olga’s Cup and Saucer is on offer at the Aquidneck Growers’ Market. The market will be open every Wednesday throughout the summer on Memorial Boulevard, beginning this week.

Summer’s finally getting into full swing! Here’s what you need to know to start your week in Newport, RI.

• On Wednesday, May 27 the Aquidneck Growers Market opens on Memorial Boulevard. Held every Wednesday 2 – 6 p.m. through the fall, you can pick up your greens, seafood, flowers, and more here, and enjoy live music. No compost bin at home? Sustainable Aquidneck will accept your food scraps here.

• The SpaTerre at the Hotel Viking has undergone a re-branding, and invites the public to join them on Thursday, May 28 to enjoy tours of the new space as well as win and hors d’oeuvres, mini treatments, product specials, and giveaways from 4 till 8 p.m. The cost is $10, with proceeds being donated to Clean Ocean Access.

• On Thursday, May 28, hop aboard a trolley with Aquidneck Land Trust to learn about conservation on Aquidneck Island. Led by executive director Chuck Allott, the tour will take guests to visit protected working farms, wildlife habitats, outdoor recreation areas, and scenic vistas across the island. The tour is free and open to the public, but an r.s.v.p. is required. Tours leave from the ALT offices at 5 p.m. and will return at about 7 p.m.
